Breakneck Blitz: A new game on Kickstarter featuring skaters!

Hello! It has been a while since we last blogged, but Shove & Kisses has been all over the place. We are settling down now and have lots of exciting things happening which we will write about very soon. Right now we have been having lots of fun play testing and watching the kickstarter campaign created by British Briefs, a new gaming company. Their first game, Breakneck Blitz, is a game of arena combat, where cybernetically enhanced skaters duel it out in an endurance skate to the death! Rather like the origins of Roller Derby, where people used to skate in organised races and knock each other over.

The artwork for this game is brilliant and has a kind of 1980s sci-fi movie feel to it, drawn by the talented illustrator James Stayte. There are lots of cool characters and more keep getting unlocked. The best thing is the kickstarter pledges start at £2! It is a print and play game, so you are sent the game and the rules as PDF files via email. it is a real bargain. If you pledge more then you get even more incentives.

Check out the campaign here:

Have a great week, guys and gals!

Shove It T-shirts available!

After the popularity of the Shove It cards and stickers we decided to see how the design would fare on a tee! It looks pretty sweet, I might have to wear this at the next bout! A very limited number of these will be available at the next bout on March 15th, but you can order them directly from us, just send an email enquiry to marisacherry@outlook.com and I will reply to you.

British Roller Derby Championship Round 2: Judgement Day

Another weekend, another bout! Shove & Kisses were at Newham Leisure Centre on Saturday for the British Roller Derby Champs Round 2, watching Brighton Rockers Vs Seaside Sirens then London Rockin' Rollers Allstars Vs Bristol Roller Derby A Team. Two intense games with full-on action and hardcore fans in the crowd. We sold a tonne of stickers, the new pug design did well as did some favourites like unicorns and jammer octopus. I am thinking of getting jammer octopus put onto a t-shirt, good idea? Ooh and check the table display now that we have Mariette the mannequin, it is looking pretty cool!

Alas, Mariette did not transform into Kim Cattrall overnight. But she did freak me out in the back seat of the car at night when I turned around and saw her lying there!

Mannequin in the house!

There is a new addition to Shove & Kisses team; our t-shirt model, Mariette the mannequin bust! I am a big fan of the movie Mannequin, so I am hoping that this bust will transform into Kim Cattrall overnight and we can spend an evening dressing up in a department store, making epic window displays or hanging onto the back of Andrew McCarthy's motorcycle.

Demoncon and Bootcamp!

Demoncon 9 was a small and friendly convention, it reminded me of the early cons I used to frequent when I first stepped into the small press scene some years back, before the madding crowds of MCM Expo and London Film & Comic Con. Having a table next to my KRG team mates was an added bonus, as they skated around the venue recruiting fresh meat for the rec league.

The highlight of the day (or rather, the month!) was attending the speed bootcamp run by Skate Britain. Reccies joined the ranks of main leaguers as Skate Britain showed us some techniques to help improve our speed and endurance. I got to partner up with my buddy Whackin' Phoenix, I had not skated with her since she went and crushed her minimum skills last year and she was brilliant. It was a lot of fun and with only one embarrassing tumble from me as I went flying forwards at a corner and skidded across the ground on my front - but that is just normal behaviour from me!

Roller Derby; will you be my Valentine?

This may sound silly but I am so thankful to have Roller Derby in my life. My life has transformed; my mind and body have transformed, and I feel so happy in my skates. I never thought I would be able to stand in skates, yet alone weave around or jump off ramps. My Roller Derby journey has not even properly matured yet as I am still struggling to attain my laps after years as a freshie/reccie, but I am loving the training and after a period of self doubt I have accepted that I will blossom at my own pace and no matter what I am still supported and accepted by my team mates.

I consider myself and others who fall for this sport to be truly lucky, how often does a feeling like this come along in a lifetime? The desire, the passion and the determination are real and we experience it every time we lace up our skates, or when we think about skating when we should be doing something else!

So this Valentine's Day I declare my true love for Roller Derby and Kent Roller Girls! Be my Valentine, Derby? Pretty please?

Shove & Kisses at Demoncon 9

Wow, what a crazy and eventful week it has been! We have been extremely busy at Shove & Kisses, lining up events and creating new artwork. This Sunday will see the start of a succession of cons and bouts dotted around the UK as we have a table at Demoncon in Kent. There will be new merchandise available as well as some of the classics. After the con I will be attempting an intense skating bootcamp with my league, and I am not sure which event I am more excited about!

So, if you are at Demoncon 9 this Sunday then come over and say hi!
